Gary Lee-Nova reflects on returning to Vancouver from his training in the U.K. and beginning to produce his paintings in a milieu in which the interaction between visual artists, writers and musicians was very lively. This spontaneous experimentation across disciplines took place alongside an interest in eastern philosophies, the examination of forms of consciousness through drugs, and the effects of emerging technologies on perception. He comments on his collaborative work with Sam Perry on the Trips Festival and with the activities produced by Intermedia.
